Helpful Training Resources

Over the past few weeks, we’ve thought through training and discipling each other through intentional relationships. Perhaps you’re wondering where we start? What are some helpful resources you can have?

Below is a list of some helpful resources. None of these replaces the Bible or the invaluable training of putting into practice what we see in the Scriptures. That being said, good books, read together and discussed, are a wonderful servant of growth. Here are a few, grouped by what they’re for.

For knowing the gospel and the Bible (think like Jesus)

Know & Tell the Gospel (John Chapman), Gospel & Kingdom (Graeme Goldsworthy), Knowing God (J. I. Packer).

For prayer and personal godliness (be like Jesus)

A Call to Spiritual Reformation (Don Carson), A Fresh Start (John Chapman) for those newer to faith, Holiness (Ryle).

For leading and teaching (serve like Jesus)

Growth Groups (Col Marshall), Leading Better Bible Studies (Rod & Karen Morris), Biblical Preaching (Haddon Robinson), and Preaching the Whole Bible as Christian Scripture (Graeme Goldsworthy).

For the bigger picture (the heart behind it all)

The Blueprint (Matthias Media), The Story of the Church (Alan Harman), and Guidance and the Voice of God (Phillip Jensen & Tony Payne).

Don’t feel you need to race through these. The point isn’t to get through a list, it’s to grow. Pick what fits where someone is at, read it alongside them, and talk and pray it through together. If you’d like a recommendation for where to start, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’d love to help.

Read about it for yourself: 2 Timothy 3:14–17; Proverbs 27:17; 1 Timothy 4:13
